The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) is an organization established in 1980 in the field of Parenteral and Enteral nutrition which promotes basic and clinical research, basic and advanced education, organization of consensus statements about clinical care and care quality control.

The Medical University of Vienna (MUW) is the largest medical organisation in Austria, as well as one of the top-level research institutions in Europe and provides Europe's largest hospital, the Vienna General Hospital (AKH), with all of its medical staff. The "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Klinische Ernährung"(AKE) was founded in 1979 by a group of anesthesiologists, gastroenterologists and natural scientists.

The association is an internationally recognized partner in the therapeutic and scientific fields. Today, the AKE has about 800 members from all occupational groups involved in clinical nutrition. www.ake-nutrition.at
